Sparzanza was founded in 1996 in Kil, just outside Karlstad by Anders Åberg, Peter Eriksson and the brothers Calle and David Johannesson. Andreas Kloss joined with a bit later as the band's bass player. In 1997, they released their first 7 "EP, Wheeler Dealer and shortly thereafter Kloss quit. Johan Carlsson was recruited as the band's new bassist. and a demo was recorded quickly, resulting in the French record company Water Dragon Records releasing the split I love you ... both in 2000. After the split, it was time to record the band's first full length. Angels of Vengeance was released on Water Dragon Records in 2001 and received relatively good reviews in large parts of the world.
After a brief collaboration with Peter Dolving (The Haunted), the band was looking for a studio to record their second album in, and this is where a collaboration with Rikard Löfgren (Bay Laurel) began. In September 2003, Into the Sewers, again on Water Dragon Records, was released and praised by reviewers around the world. With Into the Sewers, the band took a big step from the stoner rock they started their career with, approaching a more metal sound.
For several years they began their concerts with police sirens. The band members were also dressed in police suits à la Texas. This image was set aside in conjunction with the next album.
In early 2006, the recording of the band's third full-length, Banisher of the Light, started again with Rikard Löfgren behind the levers. Much of the focus was on stronger song material, and so Löfgren stepped in as a sixth member. The record company Water Dragon Records was released in favor of its own newly launched label Black Cult Records, and Banisher of the Light was then released in early 2007. Both Peter Dolving (The Haunted) and Ralf Gyllenhammar (Mustasch) were on the album, and the opening track Going Down was rolled out on Headbanger's Ball and was included in the game The Darkness for Xbox360 and Playstation 3.
After a lot of touring with gigs at, among others, Sweden Rock Festival, Tyrol and Qstock in Finland, in the beginning of 2008 it was time to go into the studio to record a fourth album. Rikard Löfgren was contacted once again and the recordings started. In the middle of the recordings, guitarist David Johannesson chose to leave Sparzanza in favor of a place in the Swedish hard rock band Mustasch. The recordings continued, and a harsher and more brutal sound was sought at an early stage. The material was even more important than before, and In Voodoo Veritas was released on February 25, 2009.
New guitarist in the band became Magnus Eronen (Space Probe Taurus, Moaning Wind and others). On February 27, the band embarked on a Sweden tour to connect with Dia Psalma, followed by several success tours in neighboring Finland.
In 2010, Sparzanza signed with the Finnish record company Spinefarm Records and started the recordings for the fifth record during the same year. The foil à Cinq that this album came to be hot was released in February 2011.
