The group was founded in the summer of 2006, when the charismatic vocalist Katra Solopuro gathered musicians around her. The group was named after the frontwoman Katra. In the spring of 2007, the band's first studio album, called Katra, was released. The album received positive reviews from various media outlets, and the song “Sahara” was broadcast on the radio for a long time. During the tour across Finland, the group created a good atmosphere and the prerequisites for recording a new album appeared.
The band was spotted outside of Finland, and the Austrian label Napalm Records signed a contract with it. By this time, Katra had recorded several new songs and quailed some from their first album in English. In 2008, Beast Within was released, the band's second studio album. Katra played several concerts in Germany, including the opening of the annual Summer Breeze festival, German listeners reacted positively to the music.
Out of the Ashes was released internationally in October 2010 via Napalm Records. Despite the fact that this is the third studio album, Katra believes that he was their first creation. A video was shot for the song “One Wish Away”. The German magazine Orkus spoke of the album as darker, more melancholy and more decisive than the previous one.
In Orkus magazine, the group won a victory in the nomination "Best International Debut" in 2009. The group was also nominated for the title of "The Best Atmospheric / Symphonic Metal" in the Estonian online magazine Metal Storm.
